Fear of God

In Exodus 20:18 we see a people that have witnessed the power of God and were afraid of His presence. “You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die,” they cried to Moses. “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin” Moses responded.

In the following verses 22-26 it is explained in great details how the Ten Commandments are to be lived and expressed in the lives of God’s covenant people.

As they journeyed in the wilderness, they yielded to intense craving and began to complain. Manna no longer sufficed. God was angered and gave them meat and as they chewed the Lord struck them with a plague because they yielded to craving.

Today, we the church are as guilty as the Israelites for we have yielded to cravings that has caused a spiritual death. No longer is the fear of the Lord present in our hearts. Instead we boldly complain and dare to make demands to a Holy God in our state of rebellion and disobedience. No longer do we fear to sin because we overdose on grace, making it cheap.

Where there was once reverence in approaching our Father, a holy fear that caused us to fall on our knees before Him now we draw near in arrogance insisting and taking for granted His Presence.

Beloved, where in our journey have we lost our fear of the Lord? What has caused us to extinguish the fiery love we once possessed? Oh such adoration and passion filled us when we first encountered our Lord! We couldn’t come into His Presence without weeping and rending our hearts!

Could it be that we have yielded to the cravings of this world and sought after pleasing man rather than God? Does our fear of what man thinks of us override what God says about us?

Fear of man causes us to be yoked up in bondage. BUT the fear of the Lord:

• Keeps you from sinning (Exodus 20:20)
• Prospers you (Deut. 6:24)
• Entrusts you with His secrets (Ps. 25:14)
• Raises a banner over you (Ps. 60: 1-5)
• Draws salvation near to you (Ps. 85:9
• Fulfills your desires (Ps. 145:19)
• Causes Him to delight in you (Ps. 147:11)
• Adds knowledge (Proverb 1:7)
• Adds length to your life (Proverb 10:27)

There is a deep longing in the Father’s heart for the love and reverence we once offered. May the cravings in your heart be solely for Him; the Lover of our soul. May we approach Him in holiness, love and revere the One who is Holy and worthy! In that we may possess the key to His treasures that are found in reverencing Him as stated above.

“He will be the sure foundation for your times,
a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge;
the fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure.” ~ Isaiah 33:6

The yoke that fear has placed over us can only be broken by the anointing of God. Seek Him today and pray that He pours a fresh new oil over you. As He saturates you, arise and walk in the fear of the Lord and set your mind, heart and soul to crave all that He desires for you to do for His Glory!

What matters most is that we please God and what He has to say about us not man!

God bless you!!
